KATHI & LEE: ENGAGEMENT

I have this friend of mine in Texas that I’ve been writing with for years.  The two of us met in an online forum for a book that we were both reading and sparked up a conversation about running, which happened to be a mutual interest.  Since then, we’ve been sharing emails…sometimes weekly, most times monthly and other times, half a year will go by before we are back in touch again.  Our conversations have varied over the years from running to politics to religion to family and of course, literature…which was the common thread that brought us together in the first place.  But, believe it or not, we also often talk about the weather.  And given that my friend is from Texas and I’m from our nation’s capital…it certainly leaves much to discuss because winter running certainly isn’t the same for him as it is for me!

The weather can be such an underrated topic of discussion…most of time referred to as something to fill the void in awkward conversation or simply a way to break the ice but really, weather is such a determining factor in so much of our lives that it really should gain a more prestigious status in the world of conversation!  And now that I’m a photographer, I feel like the weather bears that much more importance to me and I find myself all of the sudden stalking the weather network at all hours of the day!

Brides and grooms understand that we can’t control the weather on their wedding day…that’s simply a given.  But it does mean that we give it that extra bit of effort to choose ideal weather {if at all possible} for their engagement shoot.  And this can take a bit of patience!

Luckily for me, Kathi and Lee are the very definition of patience, as day after day went by of torrential rain…forceful winds…or just downright depressing weather.  Hardly the conditions that we were hoping to have for their warm, summer shoot.  So we waited…and waited…and waited some more.  We actually waited through nearly a month of rescheduling before Mother Nature decided to cooperate and bestow upon us the most gorgeous of summer evenings.  But when she did…she made it well worth the wait!

Kathi and Lee, your patience has prevailed my dear friends…and I hope you enjoy the results!
