ERINN & IAN: WEDDING

I certainly can’t speak for all wedding photographers, but I can say that when I first started out in this business, I used to have these grandiose visions of how amazing it was going to be all the time; I was going to have the perfect brides, with the perfect weddings taking place at the perfect locations that would inevitably have every magazine and wedding blog banging at my door desperately wanting to publish my perfect images!  I mean, really…let’s be honest…there’s nothing like those kind of fantasies to keep you grounded in reality!

As I’ve come to learn over time though, perfection is a somewhat subjective term!   In the year and a half that I’ve been photographing weddings, I’ve realized that “stuff” happens…life happens! Sometimes it rains {or better yet…snows!}; sometimes the lighting isn’t ideal; sometimes you and your bride don’t turn out to be the best fit; sometimes your equipment acts up; sometimes everything starts running late…sometimes things just don’t quite happen the way you had once envisioned them.

But sometimes they do.

Sometimes, you get to be a part of something that changes everything.  Sometimes you meet a couple that remind you of why you started it all in the first place.  Sometimes, it really is just perfect…in the very essence of the word.

Erinn and Ian are the couple that I daydreamed about a year and a half ago.  From the first time I met them last winter, to the conversation we had over facebook last night…it has always been like catching up with an old friend.  And old friends have a very special place in my heart!

At the risk of sounding too enamored; Erinn and Ian are an amazing couple! They share an amazing love and amazing smiles.  They belong to amazing families who make the most amazing scones!  They had an amazing wedding party with the most amazing sense of humour!  Their wedding took place on the most amazing day {a beautiful 22 degrees in an otherwise 45 degree summer!} including the most amazing sunset!  I got to share the experience with an amazing friend and photographer {thank you to Heather McAfee for being such a great second shooter}.  And lest I forget the fact that I got to have the most amazing steak that I’ve ever eaten!

A year and a half ago, this is the very wedding that I dreamed about…the very reason that I braved a whole new world.  And surprisingly enough, it turns out that it wasn’t at all because it was perfect…it’s because they are perfect.  Perfect for each other.

Erinn and Ian, there are no words for how much I loved being a part of your day.   Seriously…there are no words.  And so I’m left with only pictures.  And I can only hope that you love them as much as I loved taking them…

  5. […] Erinn and Ian are two of the best people you’ll ever meet!  I shot their wedding very early on in my career and only met them for the first time at our initial consult.  And during that coffee date, I quickly came to adore everything about them; their friendly personalities…their sense of humour…their kindness.  To this day, their wedding remains one of my most favourites.  And since their wedding, I have ended up loving everything else about them; their friends {I have since shot two of their weddings!}…their family {Erinn’s sister is now one of my closest friends!}…and Max!  Sweet, handsome, hilarious Max!
