BABY MAX: PORTRAITS

It’s official.  We’ve reached that stage with Hudson where he spends his days asking four hundred questions!  Or rather – he asks the same question…four hundred times a day!  What’s that?  Even when he knows exactly what he’s looking at or exactly what he is listening to…it still happens; “Mommy, what’s that?”

Most of the time, I find this endearing and adorable…other times, I just want to hand him my iphone and tell him to google it!!!  But so it begins…our life of raising children who want to know everything…until the day comes when they think they know everything!  I’m told that it’s all downhill from there!

Erinn and Ian are two of the best people you’ll ever meet!  I shot their wedding very early on in my career and only met them for the first time at our initial consult.  And during that coffee date, I quickly came to adore everything about them; their friendly personalities…their sense of humour…their kindness.  To this day, their wedding remains one of my most favourites.  And since their big day, I have ended up loving everything else about them; their friends {I have since shot two of their weddings!}…their family {Erinn’s sister is now one of my closest friends!}…and Max!  Sweet, handsome, hilarious Max!

When Erinn and I were chatting on the phone just before Christmas, she said something to me that I thought was completely amazing.  She said “I wonder how many times I’ve said ‘I don’t know’ since Max was first born?!?!”  And I just can’t help but smile at the this honesty…this humility…this truth.  Because just like Hudson at his current stage, being new parents also involves asking four hundred questions a day {or the same question four hundred times a day!}.  But better yet, while rarely ever knowing the answer!

It’s as though we’ve spent our entire lives learning…gaining knowledge…trying to figure things out.  Only to have a baby and realize that we actually don’t know anything at all.  At least not anything that matters!  So we start from scratch – like my two and a half year old son – asking what’s that?  It’s hilarious and terrifying all at the same time!

It was such a privilege to photograph Max and his amazing parents.  To remember what it was like at that stage of “newness”…to watch some of my favourite people become parents themselves…to indulge in their company all over again.

I sure do love you guys to pieces…xoxo

ps – you sure do make cute kids!
