This past week, Steve and I sat curled up on our couch – as wind and rain pounded against our windows – and watched the very last episode of Dexter.  We watched the first one back in July and over the course of five months…managed to watch all eight seasons, right up to the recently aired finale.

I’m not going to lie…I was devastated.  Heartbroken.  Crushed.

The New York Times called it one of the saddest finales ever aired.  I called it “the moment I realized that I don’t have the emotional capacity to have a crush on a fictional serial killer!!”

For real though…it’s been a rough couple of days!

As I type this, the final edits are being done for Marie-Eve and Ryan’s wedding…my final wedding of the 2013 season.  And in a lot of ways, it feels much like saying goodbye to some of my favourite television characters.

Booking clients isn’t just an investment on their part.  It’s also a huge investment on my end.  Time, commitment, energy and emotion.  My year becomes filled with the personal involvement that comes with sharing in someone’s most important of moments.  Until one day, you get in your car and step away from a reception for the final time that year.  Your inbox starts to get smaller…your days start to get slower…your soul starts to get a little lonelier.  It becomes a change of pace…an adjustment from the people you once shared so much of your time with.

Not unlike the watching the credits roll for the last time…it’s the finality of it all that makes it hard.  Even if you think you’re ready…the end always comes as a bit of surprise.

Wind and rain also marked nearly the entire day of Marie-Eve and Ryan‘s beautiful wedding.  But fortunately for me, they are just the end of a season and not an entire series.  While they certainly mark the beginning of a change, it also means there is still lots to look forward to in the very near future.

So, here’s to my very own finale…an epic conclusion to a pretty incredible season…
