The more people I meet, the more experiences I have, the more I start to wonder what the world would look like if we all began to honour one another.

Not just our triumphs…but our struggles. Not just our outer truths…but our inner realities. Not just our daily dialogues…but our lifelong stories. What would the world look like if all that we did and all that we knew was to honour one another?

What would the world look like if our instinct wasn’t to make assumptions…but to ask questions? Not to judge…but to empower? Not to talk…but to listen?

I imagine it to be a world of great compassion…a world of beautiful support…a world of intertwined stories. I imagine a world where we suddenly realize that all of our roads have been filled with our own brand of challenges and we’re not really walking as far apart as we think.

I imagine a world where people are a lot more like Rebecca and Jarek.

I met them so that we could photograph this beautiful stage in their life as they await their first baby.   But our time together ended up being so much more than that. It ended up being two hours of having this idea weigh on my heart even more because Rebecca and Jarek emcompass so much of what would make the world a better place.

It wasn’t just about taking pictures. They wanted to know my story…and they wanted to share their own. No judgment…no assumptions…no pretense. They just wanted to know what road I had walked that led me to them…at this point in their own journey.

They were honouring the roads we had each taken to get here…to get to this point…to get to each other…

And honestly, I can’t help but hope I end up walking much more of it with them in the future.
