When I was a little girl, I really wanted to see the Phantom of the Opera. I wasn’t sure why – as I had never even been to the theater before – but I felt drawn to the experience. I used to ask my Dad all the time if he would take me…and he always told me that I wouldn’t like it. He never said why – even though he had seen it numerous times on his own – but he felt drawn to the certainty that I wouldn’t enjoy it. To this day, I’ve never seen Phantom of the Opera and to this day, I find myself wondering whether or not I would have liked it.
Experience is what defines us a human beings and helps us to get to know ourselves better. I haven’t been very good at knowing myself over the years. I’ve been especially good at doubting myself…I’ve mastered the art of questioning my instincts. And part of that involves questioning who I am and what I like. While I’ve improved over time at discovering a more complete sense of self…there are still times when I stand in a clothing store for far too long wondering if I really love navy blue as much as I think I do! Life is really not meant to be that complicated!! We’ll just call it a work in progress!
When Lisa and I began discussing the details of her portrait session, she knew exactly how she wanted it to look…exactly what she wanted to include…exactly who she wanted to reflect. And I just love this about her. Her quiet certainty…her subtle confidence…her genuine authenticity. Lisa isn’t just a radiant soul, but she’s also a brilliant photographer. As a woman…as a Mother…as an artist; she knows who she is and having her in front of my camera was just the most wonderful experience.
Lisa – my sweet friend and peer – you may have had a question or two for me about business…but I will certainly have a question or two for you about the art of life!
