ANGELICA: PORTRAITS

A little over five years ago, I walked through our front door after a five hour drive from Toronto.  I have been there for the weekend with friends doing my first official photo shoot.  At this time, having a full-time business in photography was still only a seed of a thought in my mind…but photography itself, had become much more than that.

I remember that Sunday night so vividly;  I was sitting at my computer in the dining room, going through the images I had taken that weekend.  My husband was making dinner in the kitchen and when I looked up at him from across the room…he had this look on his face that was unfamiliar to me.  A look of wonder that suggested he saw something in me at that moment that he hadn’t seen in a while.  When I finally asked him what was running through his head…he just looked at me and said “nothing at all…I just like seeing you so happy.”

Eventually, after a full weekend away from home…nearly ten hours of driving…and many hours behind the computer…I went to bed.  But I went to sleep that night a different person.  I went to sleep that night as someone who had changed.

That was Sunday, March 15th, 2009.  And that was the day I fell in love with photography.

Five years later, I’ve been finding myself in the most blessed place possible with my work and business.  Not just in regards to photographing beautiful weddings with beautiful people…but growing with other people and learning so much about myself along the way.

And one of those people has been Angelica!

One of the loveliest human beings you’ll ever meet…she’s young…she’s talented…and she has come to love being behind the camera!  She has been spending the last six weeks with me learning about photography.  Everything from the technicalities of her camera…to digital editing…to accompanying me on a recent shoot.  But all the while, Angelica has also been teaching me.  She has brought me back to that time – five years ago – when I first fell in love with my craft.  To that moment when I changed.

It may seem insignificant…but – truly – it is one of the greatest propellers to help move you forward.  To be reminded that you are creating something…you are putting something out into the world…you are bringing vision to life.  To be reminded that YOU ARE AN ARTIST.  It drives you…it inspires you…it reminds you of why you fell in love in the first place.

And that alone, means one immensely beautiful thing…

That this sweet girl – right here…has given me more in our six weeks together than I could ever give her…
