When it comes to technology, I’m what you might call a “late bloomer”!!
The internet started making an appearance when I was in high school. We had access to it via our library computers but, really, I had no idea how to use it. I never owned a computer in university and I still relied entirely on professor’s office hours instead of using email. I got a cell phone when I turned twenty-one, only to return it a month later because it made me so stressed out!! I was that girl that would sit in the computer lab at school typing out my assignments because it was the only access I had. I was also that girl that had no idea what the terms ‘hard drive’ or ‘resolution’ meant. It’s safe to say that I was at odds with technology for a long time!
I was twenty-eight when I got my first computer. Steve came home one night and gave me a beautiful white macbook as a gift. For no reason at all. Just because! I fell in love with my husband and technology a little bit more that day! We got our first cell phone when we were expecting Hudson. A ‘pay as you go’…shared between the two of us! Even that small amount of accessibility made my heart beat a little faster!!
I’m better now! My husband – the tech wizard that he is – has brought us together slowly…over time. He’s given us the perfect opportunity to know each other a bit better! I’m pleased to say that I’ve been in a long term relationship with my iPhone for almost three years now!!
Texting has been a problem for me though! For starters, I despise typing on my phone! Auto-correct is enough to make anyone homicidal and I just can’t handle any lengthy conversations. I avoid texting at all cost!
That is – until I met Lesley!
Lesley and I texted a lot during the afternoon leading up to her engagement session. We shared countless moments of hilarity and procrastinated doing our work more than I’d like to admit! I even convinced her and Simon to roll around in the sand for a photo or two!! But here I was – doubled over laughing – from a text conversation with one of my brides that I had yet to meet in person!! And herein lies the real beauty of technology…the side of it that has potentially eluded me all of these years!!!! The ability to gap time and distance, while allowing relationships to build in the meantime. Maybe even giving auto-correct the chance to throw in a laugh or two along the way!!!
So, thank you, Lesley and Simon for oh so many laughs! Thank you for showing me the bright side of technology [and potentially turning me into a slight texting addict!!] and best of all…thank you for being even better in person!!!
such a beautiful couple and photography set!
