KRISTAN & JORDAN: ENGAGEMENT

Leaving “conventional” work to become self-employed can be a really big adjustment.  On one hand, there was an immensity of benefits that came with being my own boss and choosing my own clients.  I love the creativity…the flexibility…the empowerment that comes with making something out of nothing.

Like anything else though, there is a flip side.  And that took some getting used to as well.  Not having colleagues that I would see every day.    No Christmas parties.  And sicks days really don’t apply at all when you’re self-employed!

But I learned recently that there are certain perks that only come when you work with some of the greatest and most thoughtful people on the planet!

And it came in the form of a firefighter and his gorgeous fiance…who invited our kids to play at the fire station for the morning.  They turned on siren lights…sat in the driver’s seat…tried on helmets…tackled the giant hose…and if you have any children…you know what a big deal this is.  While Batman may be cool…there isn’t a single superhero that even remotely compares to a fireman!!

It also made me realize that while my work now may look undeniably different than anything it ever did before…my work now gets to be about so much more than “work”.  My work gets to be about my children KNOWING (not just thinking!) that my job is to make princesses…and introduce them to superheroes!!

Self-employment…for the win!!!
