One of my most favourite things is to drive on the highway or through a big city during sun set.  I love the way the sun bounces off all of the cars and tall buildings, making everything around you look like it’s being sprinkled with the most beautiful light.  Unlike the sweet calm of watching it set over the mountains or the ocean…in an urban setting, it’s almost as though the sun is having one last dance before calling it a night!

And I love it!

I love it because it reminds me that beauty is everywhere.  If you can look past the rush hour traffic…if you can look past the overpopulation of urban sprawl…if you can look past all the things that you believe are obstacles…you will see beauty.  Because it’s always there.  Always waiting.  Always willing.

What I love most about Julia and Fred is that – they too – see beauty in everything.  When they first emailed about their preferred location for their engagement shoot, the words ‘bugs’ and ‘poison ivy’ may have come up!!!  And yet, if I was willing, so were they…because they saw beauty past all of that.

And sure enough, after meeting on the side of the road…after walking off the beaten path…after finding ourselves in the middle of the woods, there we were.  In the most beautiful ravine…with a trickling of water…and a stone bridge.  It took my breath away at first sight and I couldn’t help but wonder how they had found it in the first place.

But the reality is that it was nothing about this particular day or this particular place.  The reality is that this is just how they see the world.  They see past the biting bugs and past the poisonous plants…and they see beauty.

And that…is a remarkably beautiful thing…
