TOP FIVE OF TWO THOUSAND AND FOURTEEN

As an artist, I live in a world that is anything but black & white.  I live in a world of margin…a world of possibility…a world of uncertainty.  I believe in things that can’t be seen and I follow roads with the prettiest flowers instead of roads with the easiest path.  My life is about love and light…it’s about moments and memories.

Almost everything we do is subjective.  It’s  about preference…about personality…about how we see the world.  And most of all, photography is not a science.  It can’t be wrapped up in a box of right or wrong…good or bad…nice or not.  It’s mine…it’s yours…it’s a collective contribution to a world that needs art.

But sometimes it’s fun to watch the numbers break it all down.  It’s fun to see how those receiving the art are most moved.

Every year, I come back here…to this space.  I come here to look at the year gone by…the clients I’ve shared it with…and to see who YOU are.  And it’s always one of my favourite posts of the year!!

This past season has been one of the fullest and most fruitful years of my photography career!  I was overwhelmed by the amazing people I got to work with and was blessed to work with so many people from all over the country.  I’ve photographed you from Yellowknife…Victoria…all over Alberta…nearly every corner of Ontario and of course, our beloved Capital.  Actually, one third of my work took place out of town this past year [Brockville…I heart you!!].

Personally, the changes were numerous and plenty.  From selling a home and building a home…to my babies starting school…it was a year made easier by the people that I shared it with.  And the people in front of of my camera were a huge part of that!

So let’s take a look at the top post of two thousand and fourteen…

5. Molly & Craig: Wedding
The love overflowed on the day of Molly and Craig’s wedding.  From near and far, people gathered to watch these two become one, and it was nothing short of spectacular.  On a perfect summer day, the journey began for a couple who stole everyone’s heart…and they had the smiles to prove it!

I wouldn’t even know where to start with these two…I seldom ever do!  There’s just something about them; their kindness, their affection, their undying love for everyone around them.  To be in their presence is a true gift.  But to have been present to photograph their incredible wedding…well, that was a truly unbelievable privilege.

3. Julia & Fred: Wedding
I could run into them anytime or anywhere…and we could pick up right where we left off.  A conversation about life…about wedding planning…about identity theft [!!] and it would feel like they had always been there all along.  As though they were always friends…always a part of my life.  They were my last wedding of the year and the most perfect way to end an incredible season.  With stunning red lips…dinosaur cake toppers…and a couple that will forever endure the test of time…it was the kind of wedding that reminded me so much of why I left the life I thought I should have for the life I wanted to have…

Oh, gosh…Janelle and Mitch!  What a couple…what a wedding…what a story!  Janelle and I – through her wedding – developed the most unique of histories.  It took planning and patience…but over time, we managed to work out the details…come together when all was right…and create magic!  I adore this girl; her spunk…her sense of humour…her love of excel spreadsheets!  I adore her husband; his gentle heart…his incredibly kind disposition…and his admiration of his beautiful wife.  Together, they are pure gold.  And luckily for me, on a cold snowy day, we finally met and our beautiful story unfolded…

1. Julie & Geoff: Wedding
It was still dark on the morning of Julie and Geoff’s wedding.  I pulled out of the driveway – three shots of espresso in hand – and began the drive to Westport to photograph a couple I had never met before.  We had made the arrangements only weeks earlier and despite having never photographed a wedding without first meeting the couple, something about them made me really want to be there for their cozy morning union.  Their sweet words…their beautiful plans…their love of coffee!  They were a couple unlike any other I had met before.  And we instantly clicked.  Their chemistry is beyond beautiful and their desire for unique wedding photos brought us to new heights in the deep, deep cold!  Not only did their wedding sweep the blog stats by a landslide, but the image below was also your favourite of the year.  It was the most shared…the most liked…received the most comments.  And I couldn’t be happier that it’s for them…a couple that makes me so grateful for unexpected plans…for Toblerone cheesecake…and for taking chances.
