If there’s one thing you can count on about weddings…it’s that they seldom go exactly as planned.  The idea is there.  The intention is there.  The electronic itinerary is there.  But most of the time, other things are there that move things in a different direction.  And you really have to find a way to just be okay with it.  Because life happens.  Weather happens.  Traffic happens.

And this is something that I’ve become pretty accustomed to over the last five years.  There generally comes a time over the course of each wedding day when you find yourselves thinking on your feet…relying on plan B…and rolling with the punches.  You adjust to the speeches that went too long…you accommodate the other wedding being photographed in the same location…you cope with the wardrobe malfunction.  It all just happens.  So you find a way to make it happen as well!

Sometimes though, the complete opposite happens.  Sometimes, the stars align perfectly.  Sometimes, everything happens exactly as you’d hoped it would.

And when those moments come along…you find yourself stepping back for a second…taking a look around…and just breathing.  One extra deep breath.  An extra breath for all of the times that you had put your best laid plans aside for the uncontrollable factors that so often come along.  An extra breath for all of the umbrellas you’ve brought along for the ride.  An extra breath for all of the instances when even an extra day wouldn’t have been enough time.

Melissa and Rémi‘s wedding was that time…that moment…that extra breath.
